SpudShow 99 Artist - Crissy Evans Winner of the SpudShow Download Chart Track 1 - Snowflake Track 2 - Words Beneath Bio Well seeing as there's only two of us this will be kinda short! Me and Martin have been playing together since about 2001/2002?? Most of the time we just jam in my apartment and record as we go... Our album " In a Room" was recorded at my home on Martin's 10 track so we had alot of fun making it : ) Unfortunately we haven't gigged in a while, so we're mainly a recording band working on our next album. We both work, and Martin is studying sound engineering in Pulse Recording so we do our best to manage working and recording. That's us I guess!! Until I think of something else more interesting!! Bio Margaret Stewart is considered by many to be one of the finest traditional Gaelic singers in Scotland today. She was born and brought up on the Island of Lewis, which is part of the Outer Hebrides (a string of islands on the west coast of Scotland), in a community where Gaelic was the universal language, save for the schoolroom. She has sung all her life, having been surrounded by music and song during her formative years, and singing has always been a passion and a pastime. Margaret's singing is rooted in the traditional, melismatic style of her home island and in the fifteen years since she became a professional singer, her reputation as an exponent of sean nos (the traditional Gaelic singing style), has grown apace. She has spent the past fifteen years performing, researching and teaching Gaelic song, and shares this knowledge with many current singers and with students of Gaelic song at Celas in South Uist; Sabhal Mr Ostaig, (the Gaelic College on the Isle of Skye); Feis nan Oran (Gaelic song festivals which have taken place in Lewis and in Skye), the Willie Clancy Summer School in Ireland, and the School of Excellence in Traditional Music in Plockton, Ross-shire. She has released two albums with piper Allan MacDonald, 'Fhuair Mi Pog' and 'Colla Mo Run', both of which are now considered classics in the canon of British folk music. These two albums were produced by her great friend Iain MacDonald (brother of Allan) who is himself a native Gaelic speaker, renowned piper and flautist. As a native Gaelic speaker, Margaret has an innate understanding of the complexities and nuances of Gaelic song, and this she fully demonstrates in her, regretably rare, performances. Her diction is pure, her ornamentation free-flowing and un-contrived; and the conviction with which she delivers a song leaves no Gael in any doubt that she is one of the finest exponents of the genre. Margaret's forte is the traditional a-capella singing style, but also performs with some of Gaeldom's finest musicians. New Irish language podcast AnLionra

SpudShow 97 Artist 1 - Niamh Parsons Track - Boys of Barr na Sraide Gigs 12/02/2006 08:00 PM - Wexford -The Pipe and Voice weekend 01/26/2007 08:00 PM - Paris , Ile-de-France -Set Dancing weekend Bio Niamh Parsons has come to be known as one of the most distinctive voices in Irish music. Her voice has drawn comparisons to such venerated singers as Dolores Keane, June Tabor and Sandy Denny. The great Scottish balladeer Archie Fisher said of Niamh, "a songstress like her comes along once or twice in a generation." Growing up in Dublin, Niamh's music loving parents brought herself and her sister to the local folk club in The Old Shieling Hotel in Raheny, where the young girls were exposed to songs and singing from the likes of The Johnstons, Emmet Spiceland, Sweeney's Men, Dolly McMahon, Danny Doyle and many of the other musicians and singers that were playing in Folk clubs at that time. "My father was a great singer, and on long journeys the family used to sing in the car—I don't remember a time in my life when I was not singing—I love songs." Niamh developed this love into a penchant for collecting songs. She is always on the lookout for songs that speak to her—listening to new albums, scouring the Traditional Music Archives in Dublin, sharing notes with a network of friends and other singers. Once she discovers a song she likes, Niamh views herself as the vehicle for the music. "For me the song is more important than listening to my voice," she says. "I consider myself more a songstress than a singer—a carrier of tradition."

SpudShow 94 Artist - Emma Cunningham Track 1 - Fault Line Track 2 - Cherie BomB Track 3 - How It Goes Bio Emma Cunningham is a singer, musician and songwriter from Dublin, Ireland. Spoon-fed on a diet of rock, folk, country and trad, (she is named after Emmylou Harris) and surrounded by music from her very beginnings, the path she would follow seemed pre-destined! As a child she loved her recorder and piano lessons, her various Bontempi organs, a xylophone, making up stories, writing poems, acting out plays, dressing up and performing for anyone that would listen. She won her first prize for singing when she was 10 for a duet with her younger sister of the Mamas and Papas song California Dreamin. Her love of all things musical grew even more and a trip with her parents to see Emmylou Harris in the National Stadium when she was 12 only fuelled her passion. It was her mother who was the first to take up guitar lessons in the house and shared what she had learned after each lesson. Emma was hooked, and on her 15th birthday was given the offer of a holiday in Italy or her first guitar as a present - the choice was an obvious one! Over the years her record collection grew, and diaries, books and school journals were graced by her favourite lyrics. Her school graduation became the public debut for one her self-penned songs. A job in a music shop opened her up to a world of musical opportunity. The wealth of music at her finger tips provided many new influences and the new contacts and friends she made set her on the road to regularly performing in Dublin. Her world revolved around (and stills does) everything musical and she learned the art of recording and producing her own sounds. She began seriously writing her own songs and music and had every opportunity to mature as a singer and performer during this time. She also turned her hand to a bit of promotion when she set up her own singer/songwriter nights (Acoustica) which gave new acoustic acts the opportunity to play more than the usual two or three songs afforded to them by open mic / talent nights. Her growing presence on the circuit attracted the attention of Hot Press and lead to invitations to perform on radio shows including 98fm, Anna Livia and Near FM and her song Sometimes being featured on Phantom fm. This year Emma fulfilled a major dream of hers when she performed 3 gigs in Nashville, Tennessee. Emma performs regularly in some of the many venues Dublin has to offer. Live, her set comprises of original material and she always throws in a well-chosen cover version. She spends her time writing, gigging, collaborating, recording at home and updating her self-designed and administered website. She is also a student of Film, Literature and Drama in Dublin city....be sure to leave a message if you like what you hear!!!

Born in Dublin on 6th June 1973 and raised in Lancashire, Edwina's beautifully crafted songs and mesmerising stage presence have led her to some of the UK's finest stages including The Royal Albert Hall in London and The Usher Hall, Edinburgh. Dividing her time between the UK and America, Edwina's second home is Nashville where she is much loved on the Songwriting circuit and has been a regular performer at The Bluebird Cafe, 12th & Porter, Brown's Diner and the (much missed) Sherlock Holmes on Elliston Place. Also in 2005 Edwina toured the UK for the first time with some fantastic artists including; Jools Holland, Van Morrison, Nanci Griffith, Ricky Ross, Loudon Wainwright III and Daniel Beddingfield. 2006 will see Edwina record her 2nd album and continue her songwriting and gigging. SpudShow 86 Artist - Sinead Martin Track 1 - Not Here Track 2 - Why Boy Bio Starting out in the hotbed of talent that was the singer/songwriter scene of the late nineties and playing the streets and venues such as the International Bar, Whelans and Da Club, Dublin born Sinead Martin was regarded as one of the brightest sparks on the scene. The eponymous demo she brings forward now is one of the finest and most inspiring collections of songs anyone is likely to hear. Clear to all who listen, is the sumptuous beauty of Sinead Martin at her best. Sinead has also lent her sonorous voice to ‘Living’, Paddy Casey’s platinum selling album; her exceptional backing vocals can be heard on the two standout tracks, ‘Lucky one’ and ‘Miracle’. Clearly, the best Ireland has to offer, agree Sinead Martin is a special talent as she has been invited to both support and perform alongside Damien Rice (Homecoming Tour, Vicar St.), Paddy Casey (Irish Tour, “Living?), and Mundy to name but a few. Siobhans father, Brian OBrien, retired this year from his position as Manager of the Irish National Rugby Team. Siobhan has the lyric style of Leonard Cohen and Bob Dylan , whilst caressing a lyric with sophisticated simplicity. She has an untouched voice and has been compared to Joan Baez, Sarah McLaughlin, and Sheryl Crow. Bob Dylan invited her to join him on stage. She has supported groups and acts such as: Christy Moore, Donavan, Maria McKee, and many more. Siobhan has a voice that many have described as enchanting. One critic saw a performance in Ireland, and had this to say: tonight I saw Siobhan OBrien for free in Docs, tomorrow I would pay 50 Euros. She blew my mind away. WHAT IS NEXT FOR SIOBHAN OBRIEN? Of course ,she is constantly performing in Ireland and England (see website for calendar dates: www.Siobhanobrien.com), always writing her songs, and thoroughly looking forward to her American tour this summer 06. For sound bites of Siobhans music, and more information, please consult her website: www.siobhanobrien.com

SpudShow 75 Artist - Livi Flynn Track 1 - Through glass eyes Track 2 - White & Blue Bio i've been playing guitar for nearly four years, and writing music for about a year and a half. so far i have a handful of songs i like, and even more songs i don't like.. so after months of planning, i decided to borrow a friend's laptop and record a few songs. i did it in under an hour. the recording's called "climbing up the walls" and has ten tracks. my plans are to just post up tracks on the internet and see what the general consensus is - that's the great thing about myspace music and bebo bands, they're a great place for bands looking for interest and people like myself, i mean i'm only 17 i'm hardly looking for a recording contract! i just want to make music, it's all good to me! i've tried uploading tracks to myspace but so far it hasn't worked, so if you want to hear some songs head on over to http://liviflynnmusic.bebo.com where i have 9 tracks up available for listenage. cheers!

SpudShow 74 Artist - Una O Boyle Track 1 - Judgement Day Track 2 - Dulman Gigs Sep 23 2006 9:00P THE COBBLESTONE Dublin Bio Úna OBoyle is perhaps best known for her work with ambient-trance-dance band Hyper[borea] a duo consisting of haunting, evocative, Gaelic vocals.in a blurry miasma of bizarre sounds, weird grooves and achingly beautiful vocal performances Olaf Tyaransen, Hot Press. In 1997 she received a Heineken/Hot Press Music Award and has released four albums and an EP with her most recent release Gaelactica receiving much critical acclaim. A stunning performance of OBoyle writes an Irish Times review of her performance with Hyper[Borea] in Whelans last year, who wove a spell visually and vocally. During this time Úna has been writing and developing her own solo sound. Songs such as Fish Dont Sigh, Síocháin, Frozen (Deamora), and Infectious are already well known around Irelands more acoustic venues. While working diligently on the developing sound of Hyper[Borea] Úna O Boyle has been exploring her own highly original solo work attracting curiousity from songwriters across the globe for her ingenious songwriting and performing talents. Tony-Clayton Lee of the Irish Times proclaims her to be a potential star in the making and "one of the more intriguing music propositions doing the rounds." Songs from piano classics to magical mystery world to good ole fashioned pop bring you to the several different worlds in which Úna delves. Únas music consists of lyrical mind journeys, melodies-to-die-for with piano and hypnotic percussive accompaniment and soundscapes designed to gently penetrate your skull.

SpudShow 70 Artist - Maeve Kelly Track 1 - Vacant Track 2 - Wave Both tracks from new album "Relative Calm" Buy it here Bio I'm an Dublin born singer-songwriter and self-confessed late-developer, now living in Freiburg, Germany. After years of hiding behind bands, wishing I was Janis Joplin and trying very hard not to be so damned "nice", I've finally made peace with my voice and my undeniably suburban Irish musical roots... "Relative Calm" is the result. It's my first solo album and I hope someone out there likes it! Happy listening... Oh, and if you'd like to get a copy of the new album, you can order it via www.maevekelly.de xM New Album "Relative Calm" This is essentially a solo project, but I had lots of help on the new album: Guitars and sounds - Jens "Big Doc" Lucht (musical partner, surrogate brother, coach and general pain-in-the-ass); Piano & backings - Jan Ullmann (our talented diva who is now concentrating on his own band: check out their great sounds at www.wilson-music.de); Bass - Ingo Rau (also producer and friend - but somebody give that man a decent meal...); Percussion - Mourat Coskun (award winner and all-round good egg); Violin - Catherine Bottomly (close girlfriend and orchestral sex goddess); Viola - Daniela Dieterich (a young lady with balls); Cello - Anne-Katrin Beller (a realy sweetie and a thorough professional); Low whistle and Irish bouzouki - Gerry Murray (an old mate from university with his own successful musical career: www.gerrymurray.com); Extra backings - Sascha Bendicks (find out more about this gorgeous man on www.die-halbe-wahrheit.de) Gigs September, 21 2006 at KiK |

SpudShow 68 Artist - Susan Bluechild Track - Mad about you BIO Keen to experiment with her early song writing potential, she headed for the bright lights of London to obtain the support necessary to launch a career. Once based in London, Susan sought out various musicians to write and record demos with, and spent time training with opera aficionado Tony Norton of the famous Irish Tenors. She spent many years gigging the pubs and clubs of the UK, singing her own material and also working her apprenticeship as an entertainer in nightclubs.

SpudShow 66 Intro from Lovely Day by Steffan Coonan from Podshow Artist - Crissy Evans Track 1 - Dreamcatcher Track 2 - Fit into your shape Bio Well seeing as there's only two of us this will be kinda short!

Bio I got a keyboard when I was 10 or so, I remember writing silly little songs then. Since I took up piano at 12, picked up the guitar and I've been singing most of my life. I've got into Jazz lately, singing in a Big Band for a couple of years. I've played in a few acoustic gigs, with friends and solo. Hopefully I get a band together soon in the future to do it all properly!! :)

SpudShow 63 Artist - Jennifer Clarke Track 1 - All in my head Track 2 - Drown Bio A graduate of the Music, Management and Sound course at Ireland's own rock school - Coláiste Stiofáin Naofa - Jennifer has been writing for only two years and yet her music has already been met with critical acclaim and taken the airwaves by storm. Her debut single 'Right Back At The Start', which was launched by singer/songwriter Sinead Lohan, was play-listed by over twenty radio stations, including Today FM and RTE Radio 1. The single, produced by Declan Sinnott, was co-written by Jennifer and Chris Ahern. It immediately generated huge interest, resulting in her playing Special Guest to Ronan Keating at the Marquee, Cork last summer, at '02 in the Park', Dublin and securing a national distribution deal with RMG Chart Records where the single went straight to number 2 in the Bestsellers Chart. Jennifer's second release 'It's Alright' has outdone its predecessor with airplay and is now part of WLR FM's 'Power Play'. Jennifer is currently recording her debut album with Producer Bruce Brody (Pulp Fiction, Maria McKee, Patti Smith, U2 Elevation Tour) due for release in the autumn. Her influences come from a wide range of music including artists from the seventies such as James Taylor, Carol King and Joni Mitchell, the eighties 'techno-era' such as Michael Jackson and George Michael and more recently Alison Krauss, Suzanne Vega and the Dixie Chicks. Jennifer is no stranger to the stage and has been performing regularly for the past two years in venues such as The Lobby, Triskel Arts Centre, Cyprus Avenue, Cork City Hall, the Galway Film Festival, the Hilfiger Sessions in Crawdaddy, Dublin, the Marquee and 02 in the Park, Phoenix Park. Jennifer's single 'It's Alright' is available at Virgin Megastore and HMV, Cork and online at www.cdbaby.com
