As a teenager, Lauren Edman was too shy to practice her singing exercises at home, but she grew up to be a woman with the moxie to perform on Apollo Amateur Night where contestants are routinely booed offstage. Lauren’s seductively spare solo debut It’s Always the Quiet One is a prismatic and intimate self-portrait. It’s a starkly vulnerable album that peeks under the veneer of shyness and examines the inner struggles of someone courageously and coyly grappling with the societal and personal manifestations of being soft-spoken.

Lauren is best known for her singing and songwriting on the track “Afterthoughts” from Sleepthief’s 2006 electronic album The Dawnseeker. At the time, she was a relatively unknown talent with a passion for trip-hop featuring ethereal but strong female vocalists. The Connecticut native moved to New York City around that time with the plan of making an album of her own music, but in the years that followed she struggled to find a balance between producing the music that played in her head and paying the rent. “I wrote a lot of these songs at around 3AM while working night jobs and living in a tiny, dingy bedroom in Queens,” she says. She later joined shoegaze band For Every Story Untold, with whom she currently gigs and records. The dual aesthetic trajectories of these disparate influences—the angelic electronic atmospherics of trip-hop and the earthiness of the shoegaze aesthetic inform It’s Always the Quiet One. The album begins with a minimalistic electronic direction that morphs to an organic and rustic sensibility in its second half.

Aryn Michelle is a do-it-yourself indie pop songstress who has always refused to wait around for her next big break; she makes it happen. As a teenager Aryn taught herself piano and guitar, and soon after began writing her own music. While attending Southwestern University, Aryn began releasing homemade demos of her original music and began performing around Austin, TX. With a hunger to become a better songwriter and performer, she attended Berklee College of Music in Boston for a few years and also began to learn how to engineer and produce her own demos and crowd-fund her recording projects.

Aryn released her debut album, Lockless Heart, in 2009 as she was finishing her work at Berklee. While at Berklee she was honored with the Scott Benson Award for songwriting, and awarded the grand prize in the 2009 Berklee Substance Abuse Prevention Campaign for her song “Crave.” Since leaving Berklee, Aryn was selected as a regional finalist for the 2009 Mountain Stage NewSong Festival, was invited to be one of eight artists to represent the TUNE campaign, was named the TexasCSA’s 2010 Songwriter of the Year, was the 2010 KLTY’s Chick-fil-a Celebrate Freedom jingle writing contest grand prize winner, and was a top ten finalist in the 2011 Folgers’ National Jingle Writing Contest.

A singer/songwriter by way of New Jersey, Boston, and now Brooklyn, NY, Laura DiStasi's music captures both the vibrancy and isolation of city life. Best known as half the electro-pop collaboration 'Measure', Laura also performs and records as a solo artist, as well as with other NYC based musicians. She has already shared the stage with artists such as Nada Surf, Fountains of Wayne, Chris Barron, Slow Runner, Tom Brosseau, and Caroline, to name a few. Beyond the live show, Laura's music has been placed on television shows, such as Melrose Place and NBC's Mercy, as well used in a Public Service Announcement narrated by Morgan Freeman for volunteerism, a cause dear to Laura who is preparing for her third marathon to raise money for the Leukemia Lymphoma Society.

Multi-instrumentalist songwriter and producer Dave Tough fell in love with the angelic voice and guitar work of DeAnna Moore when searching for demo singers on Myspace in 2009. They met and soon realized that they both shared a love of artists such as Fiona Apple, Goldfrapp and Edie Brickell as well as a penchant for older jazz standards. The name Xavier & Ophelia (X&O) came from a pair of children’s dolls.

X&O’s music collectively has been placed in movies, television and commercials. Musically, they tend to combine Bachrach-eqsque melodies with electronic production intermingled with live instruments such as the acoustic guitar and drums. The duo released their first 9 song effort, X&O EP, in 2011. They continue explore new sounds and textures from their studio in Nashville, TN.

Kaile Goh may look familiar to you ... as a model and actress she has been in countless commercials and major campaigns, including Disney, Target, JC Penney, Wal-Mart, Barbie, Bratz, Kodak, and many more.

This year, at 14, she adds “professional musician” to her resume with the release of her debut album, “One Too Many Times.”

Born to a Chinese father and an American mother, Kaile lived in Singapore for the first several years of her life. When her family moved to Los Angeles she began modeling and acting, signing with Ford Modeling Agency and Abrams Artists. Kaile’s passion, however, has always been for music.

She began singing, playing guitar and writing songs at the age of nine. Using her own money earned from modeling to buy her Gibson Hummingbird guitar, she had her first song played on UCLA Radio at the age of 10. Her parents encouraged her, giving her lessons and taking her to open mic nights.

With the guidance of producers Krish Sharma (Perry Ferrell, Rolling Stones) and Bobby Brooks (P.O.D.), Kaile’s debut cd includes 11 of the more than 40 songs she has written, ranging in style from power pop to hard rock.

To support the release of “One Too Many Times” she has a string of west coast performances lined up with her band.

Raised in households where a myriad of music was played and appreciated, from Pink Floyd to The Allmans and Chuck Berry to Joao Gilberto, it comes as no surprise these artists create such diverse tracks. All having been introduced to pianos and drums in the grade school years, they acquired their addictions early on to the creative process and performing craft. Through a series of mutual crossroads in the Catskills and New York while supporting others, Government Mule and The Violent Femmes, these musicians met and formed their own project The Devyl Nellys.

Gigs in music towns, parties and colleges across the US led to genre development by songwriter Nelly Levon and guitarist James Mastro (The Bongos). Their distinct 60 bohemian rock style took shape after experimental jams and studio sessions at Retrophonics with Jim DeVito (JJ Grey & Mofro) and Bill Chapin (Justin Timberlake). Conflicting frustrations with mainstream art and life led to sharp lyrics that are frequently empathisized, and rarely sang. Like many contemporaries, they denied the urge to conform and pursued the independent route to showcase their arrangements. Recently, they've been heard on the festival scene, live venues, songwriter circles and across radio, television & film.

Protobaby are a 4-piece band based in Limerick with members Colm McGuinness, Tony Monahan, Bryan Ronan and Aidan Graham. Formed in 2008 when guitar player Tony and bass player Aidan first met Dublin born singer Colm for the first time through an ad placed in a national newspaper. Meeting in a local bar, sat next to an open fire Colm took out his guitar and played some of his songs. The lads loved his deep baritone and captivating lyrics. A rehearsal was arranged and drummer Bryan was soon onboard. Colm’s songs, mixed with riffs and guitar ideas from Tony along with the musical ideas and arrangements from the entire band have come to form the Protobaby sound.
The band spent 10 months writing, recording, jamming and rehearsing. Having released their debut E.P. 'Freedom' to some great reviews in the music press the band spent a few months of 2010 gigging and promoting 'Freedom'. Following a successful nationwide tour the band returned to the studio to work on a new single ‘State Of Affairs which was later mixed at 'The Production Suite' in Dublin and will be released along with a video in late February. At the beginning of 2011 Hot Press magazine included Protobaby in their ‘Hot for 2011’ feature. A nationwide tour began in late February taking in Limerick, Kerry, Dublin, Dundalk, Cork and Galway.

23-year-old Rachel Brown is a singer, songwriter and musician born and raised in New York City. Brown’s music fuses pop, Caribbean, Hawaiian, country and world sounds into a captivating groove."

In solo recordings, with her guitar or ukulele, Rachel’s unique voice combines sweetness, sultriness and vulnerability, enchanting the listener. When coupled with her band of talented African musicians, Brown’s Bermudian and Ethiopian heritage shines.

As a fairly new artist with no formal musical training, Brown found her voice the old fashioned way. “My songwriting process—which started about five years ago— consisted of grabbing my guitar and learning to play it while I wrote these songs,” says Brown. “I just kind of play things until they sound right.”

Brown’s natural talent was quickly recognized by her peers and established veterans alike. She was the 2010 recipient of the prestigious ASCAP Foundation Robert Allen Award for songwriting. She also awarded a very coveted audition slot at the National Association for Campus Activities national convention.

I grew up in Russia, started singing before my first birthday and spent most of my childhood dreaming about becoming a big star. At ten, after failing at ballet, swimming, gymnastics and volleyball, I finally demanded to be put in a music school, where I chose classical guitar as my instrument and somehow ended up becoming a lead singer and acoustic guitarist of a country and bluegrass band (we're still in Russia at this point, you're following?) that later moved to Nashville, TN and became known as Bering Strait. Twenty years, one Jazz College, five major record deals, two country albums, one movie (The Ballad Of Bering Strait that you can now watch in Hulu) and one GRAMMY NOMINATION later, I'm on my own, there's a new SOLO ALBUM out, and I'm about to go back to the studio to record two more. The world of Volary’s music is a world full of light and darkness. It examines the hope, despair, and countless other feelings that struggle through us as part of the human condition. “As a child I would go into my room, turn my stereo on loud, and let all of my frustration, disappointment, and hurt explode from me by singing. Nobody else ever seemed to want to say quite the things that I did though,” she muses. “I suppose that was my songwriter’s voice telling me that I had to write songs for those like myself who were still disenfranchised.”

It was not until the Australian-born singer moved to San Francisco in 2001 though, that she discovered a city bursting with the artistic intimacy and honesty of singer/songwriters. Ultimately, it was the inspiration for her to say “OK, nobody’s ever going to write the songs that I hear until I learn to play the guitar and write them myself.” The result was “Out of Shadows,” an album which not only earned a 5 star review from Muzikreviews.com, but was also named their “Pick of the Week” (Dec 4, 2010).

Volary muses about her creation: “You might compare it to a sculpture of delicate flowers made out of barbed wire.” The album takes flight through a land of mixed human emotions. Most of the songs delve into the darker sides of the human psyche, but as in a chiaroscuro, there is always light again. “I wrote, co-produced, sang, and played acoustic and electric guitar on the album, but this album is not just about me. I was honoured to work with some amazing musicians and together we made this album what it is.”

The dichotomy, yet juxtaposition of elements is an apt parallel to the name Volary, and to the basis of the album. Volary is an obscure English term, defined as a flight or flock of birds, or the cage you keep them in. What better metaphor for freedom, escape and joy, than a bird taking flight? What better metaphor for having your spirit broken than being put in a cage? And what greater dichotomy than a singer/songwriter who has a Ph. D. in Biochemistry but is so willing to be emotionally vulnerable musically? Watch as this complex talent from California steps out of the shadows.

Not many can claim they are a sixth generation Californian, let alone Angeleno. Manda Mosher can. Still what does that mean? It’s not as easily defined as saying you are a sixth generation New Yorker, or Bostonian for that matter. Manda’s first ancestor to settle in the region, came to Downtown, Los Angeles in the 1800’s from Delhi, New York after the Civil War, additional family followed establishing a chicken farm in the Valley in 1911.

Manda Mosher grew up in the town of La Crescenta, just outside of Los Angeles. A sleepy and secluded community located at the foot of the mountains just North of Pasadena. Close enough to the city of angels that Manda was well versed in the Hollywood music scene, but just far enough away that she could peek over the fence and gaze upon it from a safe distance.

The title track of Manda’s new EP “City of Clowns” was written about her relationship with Los Angeles which she describes as a love/hate sort of affair, as depicted in the song. Although the lyrics can relate to any city to some degree, Manda admits she has often thought of leaving Los Angeles, but it is her family that has continued to keep her here. “I’ve always felt sadness for this town. I’ve watched all these people come and go, taking what they can, getting famous, getting rich, with little regard for the community and the people that call it home. On the other hand the opportunities are endless here.”

Passion, drive, and great writing – these adjectives define the music and life of Susan Cattaneo. Growing up on a farm in New Jersey but spending her summers on an Arizona ranch, Susan moved easily between the energy and electricity of the East Coast and the wide open spaces and campfire stories of the West. Susan found her place in the musical world at an early age, singing six-part harmony with her family around the dinner table. After stints in bands in college, she spent a year in Italy, where she studied Italian and performed a mix of standards and traditional Roman songs in various piano bars in Rome. Upon her return to the States, she began a dual career in New York City. By day, Susan was a television writer/producer, earning an Emmy nomination and NY State Broadcasters Award. By night, she was the co-lead singer in the Blackfish Band, a funk-folk outfit that also launched the career of Mike Errico, where she became a regular fixture at clubs like The Bitter End and Kenny’s Castaways. Applying her writing talents to the craft of songwriting was a natural next step, and following her musical dream, Susan headed to Boston to attend Berklee College of Music on a vocal scholarship.

Hungry Lucy began by chance in 1998 when War-N Harrison (Fishtank No.9) was asked to contribute to a Depeche Mode tribute album. War-N asked vocalist/lyricist Christa Belle to record vocals for the song "Blue Dress". The couple found they worked together so well that Hungry Lucy was born.

Hungry Lucy chillin' outAfter spending a year writing and recording, the Autumn of 2000 saw the release of Hungry Lucy"s debut CD, "Apparitions". The album garnered much attention across the US and Europe for it"s combination of pop song structures, trip hop grooves and Christa"s haunting vocals & other-worldly lyrics. This attention of this debut CD lead to a licensing deal with Belgian label Alfa Matrix and subsequent European relase of Apparitions:Revisited in Fall of 2001.

After spending Spring and early summer of 2002 performing live, Hungry Lucy completed their next full length album entitled "Glo". Glo captures all the elements that Hungry Lucy are known for while continuing to explore other genres such as jazz, blues and europop. Once again, the album received critical acclaim and glowing reviews worldwide and expanded Hungry Lucy"s reach to a much wider audience.

In the Summer of 2003, Hungry Lucy embarked on a tour with Pittsburgh"s ThouShaltNot across the Western and Midwest regions of the United States. This gave people of chance to hear, as well as see, what Hungry Lucy is all about. True to form, Hungry Lucy delivered stunning performances along with synchronized video accompanyment. Several one-off shows in late 2003 / early 2004 (including performances with Cruxshadows & Wolfsheim) followed.

In Spring of 2004, it was time to head back into the studio and capture the new material Hungry Lucy had compiled over the preceding months. The result, Hungry Lucy"s 3rd full-length CD, "To Kill a King" was released in Nov. 2004 to critical acclaim from both fans and the media alike, debuting at #9 on the French Alternative Charts in January, 2005. In addition to college and club DJ exposure, "To Kill a King" has been featured on Public Radio programs such as PRI"s "Echoes" and the X-Star Network"s "Audiosyncracies". The album brilliantly displays Hungry Lucy"s passion for musical contrast and clever songwriting for which this duo is known.

Hungry Lucy returned from successful 6 week US tour and are currently writing for the next release.

Singer/Songwriter Annie Fitzgerald combines tender lyrics akin to Shawn Colvin, a timeless sound like that of Ray Lamontagne, a soulfulness kindred to Patty Griffin, and a quiet intensity similar to Damien Rice, then stirs the pot into a sound that’s all her own.

Fitzgerald grew up in Crookston, MN where, at age two, she began to show her artistic talents as a dancer. She began piano lessons at age six. She focused on her music in college and received a B.M. in Vocal Performance from the University of Minnesota, and spent a summer training at the Mountview Theatre School in London. After graduation, she worked in and around as an actress in the Minneapolis area as a member of the working theater community and the Actors Equity Association. In 2005, she moved to NYC to focus on performing her original music.

DiNicola moved around a lot when she was growing up, and has that unique perspective of someone who’s been “the new kid at school” a few too many times. After graduating from Syracuse University, Leslie found herself pulled in opposite directions by her love of music and her love of sailing. She reflects, “By the time I was 22 and moved to Manhattan, I had already lived in 8 different places. No matter how much you like a place, the way I liked NY, there’s a hesitancy to get too comfortable. I think that’s what kept me running off to sea so often, sailing to different countries every chance I got.”

Acclaimed by the public and critics alike, Bárbara Eugênia is part of a new generation of female voices that are redefining the Brazilian musical scene. Born in Rio de Janeiro but calling São Paulo home since 2005, this young artist with a unique voice and highly nuanced stage persona started her career with an invitation from musical producer Apollo 9 to record two tracks for the movie O Cheiro do Ralo, directed by Heitor Dhália. Inspired by French chanson, Bárbara decided to shift the focus back onto songs made popular by singers like Anna Karina and Brigitte Bardot, in a tribute to Serge Gainsbourg, idealized by Edgard Scandurra. In her participation in shows by the group 3NAMASSA, comprised of Pupillo and Dengue from Nação Zumbi and Rica Amabis from Instituto, Bárbara added a female touch that made for a magical public performance. As she starts her solo career, Bárbara travels from Brazil to French music, and has been well-received by both the public and the media; her shows in various cities around Brazil signal her coming of age as an artist. In 2009, she decided to record her first album, bringing together a group of friends all seeking to tap her artistic character in surprising ways. She is accompanied by her talented band: Júnior Boca (guitar and musical direction), Dustan Gallas (bass, keyboards, mixing and production) and Felipe Maia (drums).
We began recording in january/2009 and after a brief pause we managed to finish it up in the begining of 2010. The album is called Journal de BAD. Journal for diary in french and BAD is my nickname for the closest friend.

Girls singing retro-tinged tunes with synchronised dance moves? A Machiavellian pop experiment inspired by KLF’s The Manual cooked up in a Brighton boozer by the mysterious Svengali Monster Bobby? Well yes, but there’s been an evolution - a change in the genetics. The Pipettes are back, and now they’re a big shiny pop group. Or at least, that’s what they’d like you to believe.

In their first incarnation, donning polka dot dresses and referencing the girl groups of the late fifties in the heyday of skinny tie indie music, The Pipettes had remarkable success. A top ten album in Japan where the single 'Pull Shapes' was only kept off the number one spot by J-Lo, top ten radio positions all across Europe, two Top Forty hits in the UK and a Top Ten in the US billboard indies. They played on the main stages at Reading and Glastonbury, blazed a British trail across SXSW, conquered the world and sold a heap of records.

Jackson, Miss. native, Anne Davis' new self-produced album, Letters, Prayers, and Journal Entries, a compilation of thought-provoking upbeat tempos and ballads from the "folk-alternative" artist, has been turning ears as it has traveled throughout the U.S. and beyond by receiving quite favorable college radio airplay. Rökkurró’s melancholic serenades are evocative of the cold and desolate landscapes of their distant homeland. Mesmerising tones and swooping strings projected against a bleak and solitary Nordic backdrop. And yet, unique warmth pervades Rökkurró’s music owed to the fragile and soothing voice of Hildur Kristín Stefánsdóttir.

Their debut Það Kólnar Í Kvöld.. (It’s Getting Colder Tonight) was released in 2007 in Iceland, Europe and Japan to great critical acclaim, followed by tour dates with iconic figures of the Icelandic music scene múm and celebrated neo-classical composer Ólafur Arnalds.

Three years on Rökkurró are releasing their sophomore album Í Annan Heim (In Another World) produced by Alex Somers, partner and music collaborator of Jónsi Þór Birgisson (Sigur Rós). Í Annan Heim is a collection of nine graceful compositions that showcase a darker, more expansive and mature sound, full of meticulously crafted melodies, complex arrangements and smooth sonic textures.

Rökkurró was selected by Clash Magazine to play at the Nordic Music Export clubnight Ja Ja Ja in London in October 2010.

Singing about faith, love and loss, Deborah is an intimate and edgy artist whose work is dedicated to peace and the process of liberation. With lyric-writing skills are honed by a lifetime of writing, world travel and study of yoga and Buddhism, she's also widely published as an essayist, journalist and poet. Her songs haves received national airplay and been featured on compilations including the Java with Jahvalin Indie Artist CD 2005 ("You Are Home" DCrooks/B.Z. Lewis) and Indie Music For Life Compilation (2007), and the RockerGirl Discoveries CD ("Dream Me" from her first EP "5 Acres" 2003). Deborah has appeared at the 2006 Millennium Music Conference, the 2005 RockerGirl Magazine Music Convention, during SXSW week in Austin, TX, Sunset Junction, the California Music Fest and was a featured performer at the 2007 Harmony Festival. She's also performed at the Grey Eagle in Asheville, NC, Arlene's Grocery in New York and the Knitting Factory in Los Angeles. In 2008 she returned to the studio with producer Ben Bernstein (formerly of New Monsoon) to release a full-length CD "Adding Water to the Ashes" which is receiving national and international airplay. Oft compared to Mazzy Star, Chrissie Hynde and the Cowboy Junkies, her sound draws on equal parts rock and roll, the blues and the songwriter tradition. In early 2009, she participated in the 2009 RPM Challenge, co-writing a new collection of original blues tunes with another San Francisco songwriter, Alex Walsh, some of which was released as an EP in Fall 2009. The recipient of a BayBridged Recording Grant, she released an EP "It's All Up to You" in Spring 2010.

AOEDE'S STORY: Once upon a time, way back in Greek mythology, there was a muse named Aoede (A-E-D). She was the first "muse of song" way before the 9 celebrated muses we know and love. And I, Lisa Sniderman, singer-songwriter for Aoede, chose this name both to inspire you and to remember to continually be inspired...I draw inspiration from my own life experiences and many muses and aspire to transfer this inspiration to you. When you listen to my songs, expect compelling stories of love, loss, life, and longing-intended to take you, shake you and wake you. It's About YOU and your connection to me-in ways that make you feel and experience those parts of yourself you may have forgotten about. Wensday is an exotic young woman of contrasts: she's been a body piercing artist, a jazz singer and a rocker – and Associate Director of All Children's Theatre in her hometown of Providence, Rhode Island. A songwriter since age eleven, having given up the violin for the more "songwriter friendly" acoustic guitar, she has already issued four independent Cds: The Story So Far, Piece By Piece, Modern Loneliness and The Rose In The Boxcar. This prolific singer-songwriter has just released her fifth Cd of original material titled Petals Of The Red Magnolia. Her eclectic style encompasses such genres as pop-rock, edgy folk-rock, adult contemporary and even a little country. Her genuine and sincere songs evoke a broad array of emotional responses from her listeners.

Carol has been performing as a singer-songwriter throughout Southern California since the early 1990s, helping to create the coffee house circuit in So Cal. She continues to play weekly in coffee houses, small clubs, book and music stores, and college venues. Her performances feature acoustic guitar versions of her original songs as well as her warm rapport with audiences. Her extensive repertoire  (ranging from the humorous to the not-so-humorous) and wide variety of subject matters (from surfer chicks to Momma’s station wagon to Teflon-coated hearts and the spaces between) ensure that no two performances are ever alike!.

It had to happen eventually. For a generation of musicians that has now grown up with the sounds of world music, a truly global pop music was just a matter of time. And for the trio Pacifika, "eventually" means now. The trio's debut album, 2008's Asuncion, introduced their artful blend of indie rock, bossa nova, Afropop, and dub production. With the new Supermagique, Pacifika have refined that sound – a multilingual, listener-friendly music that marries languid Latin rhythms to a deep dance groove, and offers a high-gloss sheen with some surprisingly sharp edges.

Pacifika's global fusion works precisely because it is not a fusion. There is no sense of trying to blend one thing with another; this is the work of three musicians, coming from Peruvian, North American, and Barbadian families, for whom rock, Latin, Caribbean, hip hop, and jazz are all part of a single international musical language – a kind of musical Esperanto. Singer Silvana Kane is from Peru; guitarist Adam Popowitz is from Canada; bassist Toby Peter grew up in Barbados. Using the Pacific city of Vancouver as a base, they have set out to create music that reflects their shared interests in Western pop and the traditions of South America, West Africa, and the Far East. The rest of Canada has been paying attention: last year Pacifika was named one of the "Bands of the Year" by the CBC, and they've been regulars on national television in their adopted homeland. Over in the States, Asuncion was singled out by critics as a "best of the year" on amazon.com, i-tunes, NPR and many other prestigious outlets and tracks from the record were licensed for use in a variety of films and television programs like HBO's red hot, True Blood. With Supermagique, they are poised for international success.

Hailed by New Zealand's National Radio as the pioneer of a new sound, Jordans music has been variously described as "industrial folk", "folk noir" and "Antipodean Steampunk" yet defies any cut and dried description. Imagine a 19th Century Nine Inch Nails banging on old iron and steam powered machines, combined with the Dead Can Dance's electronic folk soundscapes and Sinead Oconnor's vocals in the background.
Jordans 5th CD was realeased in April 2009. "How the Dead Live" is a tale inspired by the story of one of New Zealands first pioneer women, Susannah Hawes. The CD follows a (fictive) dialoge between Susannah and History herself. History has been sent to track Susannahs 'ordinary' life and is irritated with the lack of battles and adventure in the lonely west coast town of Karamea. Susannah suggests, however, that maybe it is those who are overlooked by History who are really 'the Brave'.
Jordan is a 3 time nominee at the New Zealand Music Awards, and has carved a neiche for her unique sense of musicality. Her music is dark yet beautiful, and has appealed to reviewers both locally and internationally

The Rebirth Station consists of singer/songwriter Magdalena Konefal and drummer/producer Povel Ohlsson (among other artists, drummer for Robyn). The duo was behind Magdalenas debut EP that caused quite a stir in Swedish media last year with it´s innovative soulful pop.

The music was on high rotation on national radio P3,  video “Hit of the week” at music video channel ZTV, and the newspapers wrote about “dreamlike soul with a hint of Curtis Mayfield and Prince”. Magdalena was immediately booked to Stockholm Jazz festival and other prestigious venues.

The new material is introduced under the name “The RebirthStation”, a name  present right from the start in the studio and while playing live,  now a fitting name for the duo since Povel taken on a more active roll in the creative process.

When he´s not making music with The Rebirth Station he tours with Robyn, makes Techno/House music and remixes for other artists under the name PomP. Magdalena Konefal writes the vast majority of the music and lyrics for The Rebirth Station. Coming from the jazz-scene she was recognised as a very promising jazz-singer through the ten years.

As the great thespian Patrick Swayze once said, "Nobody puts Baby in a corner." The same is true of Sarah Borges. On the basis of her critically-lauded early work, particularly Diamonds in the Dark (2007), some pundits decided they know exactly where the Boston-area rocker and her cohorts, the Broken Singles, belong in the musical spectrum. They were mistaken. Her new record, The Stars Are Out, is about to stun them with a more vibrant, far-reaching display of what Sarah Borges and the Broken Singles are all about. And yes, there will be dancing.

"We always want people to dance," enthuses Borges. "That's the best way to get a show going." After months of touring in support of Diamonds, she knew the character of her third album needed to be more upbeat than its contemplative predecessors. "I was trying to think of songs that would fit really well into our live show." The results include the slinky, '60s stroll of "Me and Your Ghost" ("That's about going out and dancing, all the things you used to do with your loved one"); the flirtatious, guitar-driven kickoff, "Do It For Free"; and "It Comes To Me Naturally," a hip-shaking tale of a girl-about-town, originally recorded by bar band supreme NRBQ.

Diamonds and Borges' 2005 debut, Silver City, often found her work filed under the Americana banner. But the time had come for Borges to explore different terrain, both as a writer and performer. The Stars Are Out is a soundtrack for Saturday nights, not Sunday mornings. "When I say I explored country music as much as possible, that doesn't mean I became perfect at it," she quickly qualifies. Borges just felt ready to take a break, until she had something new to say in that realm. And rock has always been her first love. "This is a style of music I've always listened to, and been really excited about."

DI JOHNSTON was born in Hong Kong to two US diplomats. After stints in mainland China and Virginia, she moved to New York where she began her performing career.

Di's debut release The Shanghai Restoration Project Presents: Di Johnston was featured as the Single of the Week on iTunes Japan in April 2007. Within days, the album reached #1 Electronic and Top 5 Overall. Since then she has steadily gained fans around the world as her songs have been used in several television advertisements, electronica compilations, and even a Christian Dior Haute Couture fashion show.

23-year-old triple threat DaniElle DeLaite has been on the stage in some capacity since the tender age of three-years-old. She has travailed through the trials and tribulations of failed recording contracts and unscrupulous agencies yet she has never given up on her dream of being a performer. “I have always been encouraged to pursue a career in music and there has always been the expectation that I would succeed even through the broken deals and failed promises,” says DeLaite. “This amazing encouragement and belief has been a wonderful support for me.” DeLaite’s dream became a reality when she won the Musicoz Australia wide competition for unsigned artists i98FM Listener's Choice Award at the age of 16. As a result she was invited to perform at the Entertainment Centre for the awards presentation that was broadcast on national television. After moving from her native township, Kiama to Sydney later that year, DeLaite bounced back from a dissolved recording contract and started a successful career as a fit model. While in Sydney she worked for nine major Australian designers as a house model and she also does catwalk and presenter work. Using the money she earned as a model, the singer/songwriter was able to take her career in her own hands by starting her company Lizard Ed Pty. Ltd. She funded recording sessions for her upcoming album and a video clip the single “Nothing to Wear.” The idea behind the single and video for “Nothing to Wear,” which are available on iTunes came about one night when the 23-year-old was getting ready to go out with a few friends. “It was nearly time for me to be picked up and I was sitting on my bed surrounded by lots of dresses, jeans, tops, jackets shoes and jewelry, thinking to myself, ‘what am I going to do? I HAVE NOTHING TO WEAR!’ I looked around the room and surveyed the giant mess on my bed, the floor, the chair and dresser and realized how absurd my statement was and how it was a moment many others had experienced as well

Nao started her live activities when she became 18 years old. Her poems which ecpress everyday lives with her precise Japanese and realistic expression stopped people walking by. Alexis was destined to be influenced by cultures from all over the world. She was born to a Cuban mom and a Colombian dad. As a child, she lived in Buenos Aires and Madridand Spanish was her first language. She started playing piano at an early age and says, “I grew up dancing ballet and flamenco, writing and making films. My parents really encouraged my individuality and creativity. But I didn’t sing a note until I was 20 years old. Can you imagine? Not a peep until I was 20.”

The family moved to New York when Alexis was 11. Her mother worked in the music industry, so she spent her adolescent years doing what a lot of teens would dream of; listening to music demos and going to concerts. Alexis soon fell in love with US Cinema. She says, “I learned to speak English by watching films. I became fascinated by how language was manipulated and began to notice how exquisitely music could be used to enhance the story. I started to think of music as the second language of the film. I knew from an early age that I wanted to do something with music and film.”

At the age of 18, Alexis packed her bags for Poughkeepsie, New York. She enjoyed her year at Vassar College, but Spain was calling to her. In Spain, she managed the rock band, Pop Sonic and learned how difficult it can be to make your mark in music. She was torn by the desire to become a musician herself and the knowledge of what a difficult road it can be. Unsure of what to do next, Alexis took a temporary job at the Rock in Rio festival in Brazil. The musicians she met inspired her so much, that she decided music was what she wanted to do with her life. She knew it was important to have a college degree too, so she enrolled at the prestigious London School of Economics—Mick Jagger’s alma mater--and emerged three years later with a degree in philosophy. During her stay in London, Alexis realized she was spending more time hitting the clubs, than hitting the books. Music was becoming more of a necessity in her life. She jumped at the chance to work with legendary producer Richard Nile, who has worked with Paul McCartney, Tina Turner and Ray Charles, among others. Nile was impressed with Foxe’s lyrics. Together, they produced the album eponoymouseponymous.

Struggle is a natural part of the creative process for many artists. For Shikhee, the one-woman army behind industrial act Android Lust, struggle became downright essential to the production of the fourth Android Lust album, The Human Animal. Not by choice, of course: Nearly a decade after debuting as the first one-woman industrial act, the Bangladeshi-born New Yorker found herself burnt out from balancing a music career with what some might call “real life.”

The process of making 2006’s Devour, Rise and Take Flight ws “a very trying period,” says Shikhee. “I was coming home from my job around 9 or 10, and then mixing till 2 or 3, only to get back up and get to work at 9 again. I was barely sleeping and losing weight.” Problems with her record label compounded her frustration; the heavy touring season that followed, prolonged it.

About the Band

Social Studies crafts intricate songs that combine angular indie rock and classic twee-pop. Born and raised in the “Music City,” Nashville, TN, the multi-dimensional, multi-talented, Multi Genre singer/songwriter, Ilyasin “YaZa” Zarifa is a reflection of musical diversity.  She started singing at the age of 7 with the W.O. Smith School of Music Vocal Ensemble and is formally trained in the flute and piccolo. Info Savoir Adore is an accident. We (Deidre Muro and Paul Hammer) never really intended to "start a band," yet ... Hi! Here we are. Phase 1: We met at NYU, but it took two years of friendship and going to each others' shows before we decided to collaborate on something. in January 2006, we went up to Paul's childhood home in Carmel, NY (referred to from now on as "upstate") and played around in his studio, ending up with an exploratory, improvisational instrumental track. Deidre wanted to have the track, Paul decided to make a MySpace page especially for it, and as necessity is the mother of invention, we needed a name. Savoir Adore was created then, though it didn't really exist yet. Phase 2: November 2006 - Unsatisfied with current situations, we challenged each other to a weekend upstate in which we would create and record a concept album. The Adventures of Mr. Pumpernickel and the Girl with Animals in her Throat was born, for us and our friends. Friends passed the recording to other friends... we were encouraged... we played a few live shows under the name "Les Frogs"... we started performing as Savoir Adore... Cantora Records encouraged us more... we went upstate another weekend and recorded the core of several more songs (most of which would end up on our full-length record)... shows shows shows... got a band together... record record ... write write.... Phase 3: And now we have an LP, In The Wooded Forest (released September 2009). Phase 4: And NOW - we're back in the studio, writing and recording...

BIOGRAPHICAL INFO: With her debut album, The Truth About Suffering, the sharp-witted chanteuse Jamie Leonhart enters the world of a new kind of diva, dynamic in emotional range and diverse in genre-crossing ability.

Jamie’s lithe and lyrical, three-and-a-half octave voice wraps around universe in which Kurt Weill and Laura Nyro meet Alice in Wonderland in a dimly-lit jazz club, inhabited by woodwinds, strings, vibraphone, and exotic instruments like the glockenspiel, mellotron and harmonium.

Born in New York City, the granddaughter of a cantor, and the youngest of three musically-curious children, Jamie began studying the violin at the age of three and singing soon after. Her inspiration to find her own voice began in her early teen years while singing in a vocal jazz ensemble, and at home foraging through her brother’s expansive eclectic record collection. After graduating with a degree in English Literature from Barnard College, Jamie continued her musical journey: through leading a ‘pop’ band, to singing as a soloist in the New York Metro Mass Gospel Choir to performing as a solo artist at prominent New York venues such as Rockwood Music Hall, the Living Room, and Joe’s Pub.

Jamie writes about many things: love, vulnerability, perspective, patience, and trust. “These songs talk about the truth … the truth about being uncomfortable, fitting in or not fitting in, and addressing and sometimes accepting flaws and faults,” Leonhart says. “A lot of the tunes explore that: the human condition in its most basic form. The more intimate and specific I am with my lyrics, the more I hear from people that a song really ‘spoke to them’ – that I captured the sentiment that they were struggling to put to words, or felt alone in. So something very personal and intimate becomes universal.”

The Nameless is Cathy's third album. Cathy was born in Dublin, and grew up in Monkstown. She found her way into music almost accidentally. She was signed by Parlophone's Regal Recordings after a batch of home-recorded demos caused a bit of a stir, and played her first live date shortly thereafter. Spirited away to a studio in Wales, she set to work on her debut album with producer Ben Hillier, who'd previously worked with Elbow and Blur. The result, Something Ilk, was a gorgeous collection of songs both sultry and sweet, with melodies that soared and guitars that buzzed, drawing comparisons to PJ Harvey and all those other female songwriters that female songwriters often seem to draw comparisons to. At any rate, most of these comparisons fell by the wayside with time, as Cathy managed to wriggle out of the indie-rock role that Parlophone had given her. She'd never felt comfortable making her voice heard in label discussions, and found that her debut was "very much other people's idea of what I should sound like." She found it difficult to perform the songs with confidence, and began to yearn for more independence. She took her time to make the follow-up, and made it on her terms. Tales of Silversleeve found its beginnings in some home demos Cathy recorded by herself, and brought with her, fully formed, into the studio. Over the three years since the release of Something Ilk, Cathy had learned how to have more faith in the songs themselves, and this time, with the help of engineer Liam Howe of Sneaker Pimps, the end result didn't stray far from her original vision. Hit singles like 'Sing for your Supper', and 'Reuben' ( a no 1 radio hit) had a depth and emotional touch that she'd been hiding, and there was a confidence in her live shows, too, that won her many new converts.

ANALENA was born in the fall of 1997 and decided to exist as a band worthy of its name. The term ANALENA comes from the ancient Sanskrit, and translates as "like/by the fire". Too many great bands from this area succumbed to lack of enthusiasm, shortage of record labels and "infrastructure" in general, and last but not least, apathy. Members of ANALENA decided to be a different kind of band, the one that would keep the fire alive.

Although based in Zagreb, Croatia and rooted in punk rock ethos, ANALENA as a band was willing and determined to shatter many boundaries from the very beginning. It is symbolic that members of the band come from two countries, Croatia and Slovenia, and it comes as no surprise that during these 7 years neither listeners nor critics were able to strictly define and label their sound. In the case of this band, one man's hardcore is another man's noise is another man's punk. Diverse but steady, from bittersweet melodies and blistering hooks to pummeling and aggressive rhythms, ANALENA covers all the bases.

ANALENA worked hard from the start. Ana, Mijo, Miran, Six and Zet played towns many people wouldn't even be able to locate on the map, and beside playing all over Croatia, they also toured Europe a couple of times. They supported local scene through activism and providing help to many local

As a mostly self taught musician, Isaboe has been composing songs since she picked up the guitar at 14. Her foray into musicianship was at around 5 yrs when her Dad taught her to play paradiddles on the snare drum of his old 50's Ludwig drumkit, complete with leather heads. Not long after, her Mum took all the kids to piano classes, but this came to an abrupt holt when their teacher moved to Africa. A host of other extra curricula activities like ballet classes and sports were starting to hog the attention. So for some years, aside from tinkering on the family piano or tuning into the radio, the musical inclination mostly lay dormant.

This all changed in highschool with music class on the timetable, and a whole new social life exposing another world of musical tastes and influences. Pulling out the old Ludgwig, drums became the most exciting indoor sport on the planet. Bashing away to The Police, a musical discovery from her  older sister's boyfriend, Isaboe's enthusiasm convinced Dad that it was time to buy a drumkit of her own (lest he might end up with a hole in his leather heads).

It was about this time she pulled out an old classical guitar from her sister's cupboard and started to learn from chord books and working out songs by ear. Not long after, she also took up saxophone lessons. Jazz was added to her growing repertoie of musical tastes.

Henceforth, music became her favourite pastime, and over the following years she wrote many songs, dabbling in garage bands and producing a few studio demos and many multi-track home recordings in the process. With a massive catalogue of songs of varying genres under her compositional belt, it was time to share her music with others.

About Taína Asili carries on the tradition of her ancestors, fusing present and past struggles into one poetic song-voice. She is a puertorriqueña vocalist, poet, visual artist, educator, activist and mother from Philadelphia, PA and Albany, NY. Her newest artistic work is with her live band, Taína Asili y La Banda Rebelde, soulful vocals laid over a unique infusion of rock, neo-soul, reggae, hip hop, and Afro-Caribbean sounds. The band's eclectic style represents the diversity of its band members, who have origins in Puerto Rico, Sicily, Greece, Brazil and Tanzania. Taína Asili carries a fire breathing voice of rage and resistance to venues, festivals, conferences and political events across the country. She weaves resistance, love, anti-colonialist struggle, ancestral remembrance, and more into a unique and unforgettable vocalization style. Taína is a winner of the 2005 “Transformation Award” given by the Leeway Foundation each year to a select few of women artists who profoundly use their work towards social change. Taína has shared the stage with artists such as Ursula Rucker, Sonia Sanchez, Pamela Means, Dead Prez, Immortal Technique and Tyrone Hill of The Sun Ra Arkestra. She can be witnessed in Scene and Not Heard, a documentary about women and hip hop culture in Philadelphia, also featuring Bahamadia and Monie Love. She was voted Albany’s “2006 Best Poet” in The Metroland, Albany, NY’s premier alternative news weekly. As a part of the Puerto-rock band Ricanstruction you can hear her vocals blow on their album “Love and Revolution.” Taína is now working with La Banda Rebelde on their debut album “Mama Guerrilla,” to be released in 2008 on the Rebel Army Media label.

“I’ve always been drawn to the darker sides of art and music,” says Little Invisibles vocalist Gina Degnars. “Even back when I started taking piano lessons, when I was seven years old—I always wanted to play the minor chords, not the major ones. There’s a powerful beauty in darkness, I think.”

So there is, from Chopin to Poe to Twilight. And it’s that same dark, powerful beauty that resonates throughout Little Invisibles’ brand of hauntingly melodic alternative pop. With Gina’s aching voice and poignant keyboard at the fore, the band’s epic, sweeping songs rise and swell like waves on a moonlit shore until they crash over the listener like a sea of Byronic heartbreak. Five of these impossibly moving songs—all composed, like the rest of the group’s music, by Gina—make up Closer, Little Invisibles’ stunning debut.

A dramatic unveiling if ever there was, Closer, which Gina co-produced, is a veritable jewel box of wide-screen modern rock. Within: jaw-dropping riches like the opener, “Breathless,” all ghostly piano, soaring vocals, and danceable trip-hop beats; the wounded-but-defiant lament “What Once Was,” the EP’s only piano-less track; and “Headrush,” a sultry duet with co-composer Lance Davis that pulses with heart-beating rhythms and gothic (small g) melodrama.

If it all sounds a bit Jane Eyre, well, then why not? Gina, who’s been through the relationship mill as much as any mature artist, maintains that she’s merely allowing her romantic angst to flower into songs that are beautiful and, ultimately, redemptive and uplifting for those who hear them. “When I’m happy I never go to the piano to write,” says Gina, who holds a bachelor’s degree in piano performance and studied at Boston’s Berklee College of Music. “I write first and foremost from emotion, and after a breakup you never have to look far for inspiration. But even then there usually ends up being an element of hope in my songs.”

Artist Bio

Marisa and Kelly grew up together on Anna Maria Island off the coast of Florida. They met in Mrs. Brockway's 2nd grade class and have been besties ever since. The girls spent their time having pancakes on the beach, singing into a tape recorder and bringing boys to the haunted house after school to make out. Meanwhile, on the other side of Florida, Rikky was growing up and doing naughty things like making out with girls and skipping school, things unbecoming of a young man whose given name was Richard Francis Walsh IV.

Marisa and Kelly met Rikky in college, where he was playing in a punk band and still skipping school. The ladies took their very first keyboard course, "keyboard 101 for non-music majors" where they proved to be the worst players in the class. It was with this encouragement that shortly thereafter, Marisa and Kelly moved to New York City and started writing songs together in a band called The Besties. Rikky moved to New York and joined the party, and The Besties' trademark sound started to take shape. They didn't know any drummers, hence the keyboard drums. At first they were too scared to sing alone, hence the vocal harmonies.

The Besties live together in an old knitting factory in Brooklyn. A team of friends came together in true DIY spirit to create the release. One friend offered studio time, photographer Leah Morgan turned the loft into a photo shoot and Wes Duvall headed up the art direction. The recording was mixed by The Besties, with help from fellow musician Jayme Guokas from The Snow Fairies.

3 KISSES jumps from one high energy style to another with traces of just about every cool female-fronted rock band of the last 20 years. The band has been compared to an array of artists including the Cranberries, Luscious Jackson, the Breeders, Joan Jett, the Buzzcocks, Letters to Cleo, Wendy O. Williams, Blondie, the Ramones and everything in between. They have coined the phrase ‘Texas Party Punk’ to describe their music. 3 KISSES’ live performance has been called ‘freakin’ explosive’ and lead singer/guitarist Tish Meeks has been referred to as ‘a ball of fire on stage.’ Tish launched 3 KISSES in Austin, TX, in January 2004 and the band has since performed over 350 live shows for over 300,000 people. ANEMO began life in September 2002 when Kingsley Sage was auditioning singers for a song writing and recording project. The results had been universally disappointing (to put it mildly), until at the 11th hour a former actress and talented vocalist called Hazelle Woodhurst entered the picture. The two immediately got on well, with their shared love of different types of music and, of course, a good cup of tea. The two set to work on penning a number of songs that would later become the basis of the ANEMO's first album. They decided that the project needed a rock edge, and to that end guitarist Matt Palmer was added to the mix.

After countless evenings at the band's basement studio in Brighton, the three had amassed an impressive collection of pop-meets-rock-meets-electronica tracks. At this point, the group took on the name ANEMO a word that means "changing forms", to reflect the blend of styles and influences that was brought to the music. The strong vocal melodies and distinctive style caught the attention of Trebor Lloyd, CEO of New York-based upcoming independent record label, City Canyons. In summer 2005 ANEMO signed a 3 album record contract and began to record the final tracks for their first album
