music from Ioda Promonet Alliance Artist - Erin Bode Track 1 - Don't take your time Artist Bio The child of a Lutheran pastor, Bode grew up in a musical household in the Twin Cities area of Minnesota. As a child, she would sneak up to the church’s podium, turn on the microphones and sing to the empty room. Soon she was singing to a full house as part of the church’s choir. She moved to St. Louis while in high school and then began listening to big band music. She became a fan of Les Brown and His Band of Renown with Doris Day and Glenn Miller, Rosemary Clooney, Blossom Dearie, Nancy Wilson and Margaret Whiting. Active on the trumpet and in student theater, Bode was a creative spirit who knew she wanted to study music in college. She decided to move back to Minnesota to study opera and classical singing at the University of Minnesota but wanting a smaller, more nurturing scene, ultimately transferred back to St. Louis to attend Webster University. She studied with pianist and vocalist, Christine Hitt, a vocal jazz instructor there, who would later sign with MAXJAZZ. Bode joined the vocal jazz ensemble and became enthusiastic about exploring the jazz approach to singing. Impressed by Bode’s commitment, Hitt asked Bode to sit in on some of her gigs and helped Bode adjust to performing live and working with professional musicians. Bode graduated with a degree in music and foreign languages (Italian and French) and chose to stay in St. Louis to begin carving out her own professional career. Soon she found a guitar player and a bass player and hooked up gigs in restaurants, clubs and for private Fortune 500 corporate events. Bode has performed to packed houses at Jazz at the Bistro, at the esteemed Pageant Theater and with St. Louis native, pianist Peter Martin, at the annual outdoor summer concert at the Missouri Botanical Garden (to an audience of more than 5,000). In addition to Don’t Take Your Time, Bode can be heard on Martin’s upcoming August MAXJAZZ release and on the MAXJAZZ holiday CD, Merry Magic, by Eric Reed. Erin Bode Erin Bode
