SpudShow is 3 years old today. I started doing a music show in english featuring podsafe bands. Then during Seachtain na Gaeilge I started doing it in the Irish language. From there the music concentrated on female podsafe artists. Now 335 shows later it  is still in Irish. As of today there are over 200,000 downloads. What about some email feedback from listeners?

Ask them where is the web site that shows the result of applying the Lisbon Treaty to the documents that it modifies. The treaty is a list of edits to other documents. I asked today and they could not point to any web site that showed this vital information. There seems to be no web site that the second level staff member could give me. They say that they have paper copies in their office but do not know where it is on the web. They say that they will email me with the information. I will let you know what happens.

 21 January 2008 - We are pleased to announce that “What You Deserveâ€?, the brand new single from Irish songstress ODi, will be released on 29/02/08 as a digital download through Littlest Mojo Recordings.

 Building on the success of debut 3 tracker “Crawlâ€?, the Wexfordian, now based in Leeds UK, spent much of 2007 on the road in the UK and Ireland playing over 100 gigs and building a strong live reputation. This lead to an invitation to support Seth Lakeman at the Beverley Folk Festival.

 With a unique and captivating voice ODi`s  sound has already been likened to Suzanne Vega, Natalie Merchant and a female David Gray. 

 In Sept 2007 “What You Deserveâ€? received demo of the week from Irish music guru Jackie Hayden in premier music magazine, HOT PRESS. As a result, ODi entered the studio with producer Karl Odlum (Fionn Regan, The Frames, Gemma Hayes) to professionally commit the track to tape.

 The single is released 29/02/08 in Ireland through Littlest Mojo Recordings and available as a digital download from itunes and all major online stores.

 A recent review by HOTPRESS’ Jackie Hayden, describes “What You Deserveâ€? as a “haunting song with a simple yet infectious guitar riff.â€?

 After a UK tour in early February including a date at the famous Troubadour in London ODi returns to her homeland to play……….(to fill when we have dates confirmed)

Sam Mahood Memorial Concert

Sunday 27th January

Kings Head, Belfast.

First band on at 3pm , through until 10pm.


Sam Mahood, who was a legend in the Ulster music scene throughout the sixties, sadly passed away on Sunday 23rd December. He was Lee's mentor and friend, and was the inspiration for Lee and if it was not for Sam, Lee would probably not be doing music. As a mark of utmost respect, Lee Hedley is organising a 'Farewell Concert' to Sam Mahood with an all-star line up, rarely seen under one roof.

The line-up will include, Lee Hedley Band, Apartment A and Apartment B, including Dusty Hagan, Billy McCoy, Mervyn Crawford,plus many others to spice up the show including well known blues and soul musicians such as Rab McCullough, Ronnie Greer, Frankie Connolly, Kenny McDowell, Davy Dunwoody, Alan Niblock and the list goes on and on.

Terri Hooley will be on standby as DJ throughout the day providing musical entertainment in between bands and during the changeovers.

It is anticipated that there will be a FULL HOUSE and it that the cover charge (including ALL musicians) will be a minimum donation of £5.

éistmusic is a monthly acoustic music club in Portlaoise. Whether you like singer/songwriters, rock, pop, folk, traditional, classical, blues or jazz, éistmusic will provide an opportunity to enjoy performances by both well-known and emerging artists in intimate, atmospheric surroundings. Since we started in September 2006, we have had memorable performances by artists as diverse as Andy Irvine, Dermot 'Blues' Byrne and Duke Special, plus many local singers and musicians. Please note that, because other Portlaoise venues do so, éistmusic does not present full electric bands.

éistmusic is currently creating a database of future performers. If you are a musician, or member of a group who would like to be part of this exciting new venture, please contact Vincent or John by e-mailing eistmusic@eircom.net. Please note that all performers should be over 18 years of age. éistmusic performers please note that, given the capacity of the venue (maximum 60), and our belief that you should be paid as much as possible, there will be no guestlist for any event. This will be strictly adhered to. Both organisers, incidentally, pay for their own tickets for each event. We regret that, at present, support acts will be paid travel expenses only. éistmusic promises performers a listening, appreciative audience. éistmusic promises patrons a wide variety of interesting, enjoyable performers. Unfortunately I've just heard that Kate Walsh's management have organised a support artist for all of her Irish dates, so I will no longer be playing on Wednesday (tomorrow) at Auntie Annie's.

But never fear, people! If you are free tonight you can still catch me opening for Basia Bulat at the Speakeasy Bar (QUBSU, starts 9pm, cost £6.50).

Bio

Grushenka Arnold was born in Dublin, but was not without musical influences as her father was part of the Showband era in the 1960s. Brendan Arnold played rhythm guitar with the Royal Blues showband fronted by Doc Carroll. Taking up piano at an early age, Grushenka was also taught guitar by her father. Following on to secondary school, she then took up saxophone and clarinet in a local marching band. After School she studied at the Bull Alley College of Performing Arts, a course which included voice training, singing/dancing and acting. Grushenka began writing songs when she was 16, but it was not until the age of 21 that she would perform them in Public. Since then, Grushenka has been performing and playing in bands while constantly writing new material. She played bass with a local covers band called Off the wall for two years before deciding to perform as a solo artist. This led to Grushenka winning the 2004 Battle of the bands/singer/songwriter competition as well as various other talent contests. Her first demo was recorded in 1999 followed by her EP in 2005. She is now working towards recording an album before leaving Canada. An album was recorded independently and released in 2004, featuring a selection of artists that performed at the Irish songwriters open mic nights. Video Description

Siobhan hails from Limerick, Ireland. She has been entertaining audiences with her individual, unique voice and style of songwriting her whole life.
Siobhan made her first audio recording at the tender age of six, with an old Burl Ives sea shanty. Years later, her first solo album, Mumbo Jumbo, received critical acclaim all over Ireland. Her second album, Like a Habit, charted #4 in the Irish Indie charts. She has just completed her third album, Cat's Eyes. She debuted Cat's Eyes on a recent tour of Ireland, in Oct/Nov '05.
Siobhan comes from four generations in the music industry. Most notably, she is the niece of '60's legend, Brendan Bowyer.

Bob Dylan invited her to join him on stage. Donovan and The Cranberries are fans. She has supported groups and acts such as: Christy Moore, Donavan, Maria McKee, The Young Dubliners, and many more.

Just reminding all that I'm starting off my promo tour in Dublins Eamonn Dorans on the 4th of August, with support from very special guest on the night. "Mexican dog circus", "Noah takes the jungle" and "James O Toole". So it should be mixed music night of different genres all in one show. Not to be missed. I will also be giving out free demos at the door co-insideing with the album release! So an added bonus to the night. on the 26th of august I will be toning it down with an acoustic gig in slatterys of capel street, with support from Snowdial, David Bowe and other special guests.

I was sorry to hear that Adam Currys mother died over the weekend. Adam Curry is described as the "Podfather". Adam and Dave Weiner invented podcasting.

I has some problems uploading the mp3 file for the show today. After many failed attempts I had to ftp it over a 56k modem line, it took 40 minutes.
